Stand Up and Get Down for NCH with Jessica Hynes and friends.

Release date: 24th April 2008

Jessica Hynes, star of cult TV comedy Spaced, Dr Who and hit UK movie Son of Rambow is heading up a night of comedy and DJ sets by her friends and a host of surprise guests – all in aid of NCH, the children’s charity. Taking place at Madame Jo Jo’s on Wednesday 18th June, ‘Stand Up Get Down’ will bring together some of the UK’s hottest comedians and DJs.

What can I say about last night? Well the first word that comes into my head is FANTASTIC!!!!! I will write more about it later but it was such a great night ;D

Here is an article from the NCH website -

Quote:
Celebrities stand up and get down with Jessica Hynes for NCH

Release date: 19th June 2008

A host of celebrities, including Simon Amstell and Stephen Merchant turned out last night (18th June) for a star studded evening at Stand Up Get Down, a comedy and club night hosted by Jessica Hynes. The event saw comedians and DJs take to the stage and hit the decks at Madame JoJo’s, Soho.

Jessica, star of cult TV comedy Spaced and hit UK movie Son of Rambow curated and headlined the sold out event with her first ever stand up comedy performance in aid of NCH’s Growing Strong campaign.

The rest of the comedy didn’t disappoint with Stephen Merchant’s sharp and witty repertoire a firm favourite with the capacity crowd. Simon Amstell stepped on stage for an impromptu set, taking time out from his sold out tour.

The Mighty Boosh’s Rich Fulcher surprised the crowd with a guest appearance and his unique poetry comedy act was a huge hit with the appreciative audience. Former Spaced actor and comedian Michael Smiley not only performed stand up but took control of the tunes later on in the evening. Miriam Elia proved her up and coming status is well earned with a quirky set.

Award winning Josie Long did her second gig in one night, coming from her own show in Brixton to close the show on a high with her stylish exuberant comedy.

Following the comedy, surprise guest DJ Russ Cuban of the Cuban Brothers kicked his way through a cracking turn on the decks filling the dance floor. DJ Format kept the crowd on their feet with a classic eclectic set, ahead of his appearance next week at the Glastonbury festival

Glyn Dillon (support artist, Gorillaz, Tank Girl) who designed the event character and promotional material was there with leading British comic book artist Jamie Hewlett (creator, Gorillaz, Tank Girl).

Jessica said of her stand up debut:

“The gig was incredible! I, in particular shone… but what really mattered is that it was a great night and all in aid of NCH.”

‘Stand Up Get Down’ supported NCH’s Growing Strong campaign which aims to improve the emotional wellbeing of children and young people. The event was the brainchild of Jessica Hynes, who is a long-standing supporter of the children’s charity.

NCH helps the most vulnerable children and young people in the UK break through injustice, deprivation and inequality, so they can achieve their full potential.
